Linking to Sources in Britannica Academic
Follow the directions below to get links to articles or images from Britannica Academic that will work later and from off campus.
- On the search results page, choose an article, image, or video.
- For articles, click on the title of the article to open the full article page.
- For images or videos, click on the Images tab or the Videos tab. Click on a small image or video to open the Media Preview pop-up box. Click the Media Details button at the bottom of the pop-up box to open the page for that image or video.
- Copy the URL from your browser address bar.
- Are you on campus right now or are you off campus? What steps you follow next depend on where you are.
- If You Are On Campus
- Paste the the URL into the Off-Campus Link Generator and click Create Link.
- Copy the new link that appears in the bottom box. Use this address when citing this source and to return to this page in the future.
- Test your link! Paste the address into a new private browser window to make sure it works. We recommend you test your link again from off campus.
- If You Are Off Campus
- Paste the the URL into the Off-Campus Link Generator and edit it. Replace the first two dashes with periods, so that
https://academic-eb-com
becomes
https://academic.eb.com
- After you have replaced the dashes, click Create Link.
- You will get a pop-up message that says, "That is a translated proxy URL and needs to be fixed. Click OK and we will fix it for you." Click OK.
- Copy the new link that appears in the bottom box. Use this address when citing this source and to return to this page in the future.
- Test your link! Paste the address into a different browser app (like Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) to make sure it works. You will be prompted to log in again in the new browser window.
