Do you like helping people? Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge with others?
All employees will undergo review throughout the semester.
Peer Tutors are available to assist other Normandale students in the Tutoring Center in a wide variety of courses including math, biology, chemistry, physics, and others. Tutors should have a solid understanding of their subjects.
They must be able pinpoint the specific needs of the students coming in for tutoring and be able to work collaboratively and positively with any student. Peer tutors must submit an application, instructor recommendation, and participate in an interview with the Tutoring Center Coordinator.
The Front Desk Attendant is the first point of contact for people coming in to the Tutoring Center and is in charge of making sure that students are checked in and connected with a tutor.
The Tutoring Center uses an internet database to keep track of schedules, so the Front Desk Attendant should feel comfortable with technology. Because the Tutoring Center is a busy area on campus, candidates should have excellent communication and customer service skills. If hired, candidates should expect to commit to a regular schedule throughout the semester.
Shifts are generally for two to four hours a day. Interested students must have a work study award through Financial Aid and can apply online through the Normandale job website. Applicants may also apply in person at the Tutoring Center (room C2140) with Beena Cook, Tutoring Center Coordinator.
Peer-Assisted Study Session (PASS) Leaders work for the Tutoring Center. They are students who are in charge of providing academic support to Normandale students, and they serve as role models for how to be successful in a course.
They attend class and facilitate student-centered group sessions during which students practice effective study strategies and review course content. PASS Leaders should be reliable, hard-working, and willing to learn new skills. They must commit to an entire semester.
If you are interested in working as a PASS Leader, please turn in an application and academic transcript. You must also have your instructor submit a recommendation. Please submit all forms to the Tutoring Center.
