This program is designed to provide eligible Minnesota residents a tuition-free pathway for earning a certificate, diploma, associate’s degree and bachelor’s degree in high-need careers.  Funding comes from the State of Minnesota and is awarded to eligible students after grants and scholarships have been paid.

Income Eligibility: 

• Have a Family Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)* reported on FAFSA or MN Dream Act Application of less than $50,000
• Have a Family AGI* reported on FAFSA or State Aid Application of less than $100,000 and have worked in a critical industry as defined in paragraph 6 of Executive Order 20-48 at least part-time between March 1, 2020 - December 31, 2021
• Have a Family AGI reported on FAFSA or State Aid Application of less than $100,000 and received unemployment benefits between March 1, 2020 - December 31, 2021
• *Family AGI for a dependent student includes parent and student AGI and for an independent student it includes student and spouse AGI.

Other Eligibility Factors: 

• You first enrolled during the Fall 2021 term or later OR you are returning to college and have not been enrolled at any college in the last three semesters 
• Meet the Minnesota residency criteria
• Not have already earned a baccalaureate degree
• Not in default on a state or federal student loan
• Making Satisfactory Academic Progress (not suspended from financial aid due to GPA, completion rate or Maximum Time Frame)
• Student eligibility for the grant will be determined every semester. You will need to fill out the FAFSA each year. A student who receives a grant one semester is not guaranteed to receive funding for the next semester. Eligibility is subject to the availability of funds and any changes in your enrollment, financial need, or other financial aid may change the amount you receive each semester.

Scholarships of $2,500, which is nearly half of a full-year tuition, are available to students who apply, are qualified and plan to study in the following areas:

Normandale PRISM Scholars Program is an NSF-funded program aimed at high achieving low-income students who are planning to earn a four-year degree in a STEM field. Each scholar will be assigned a faculty mentor and will receive as much as $3,750 in scholarship money each semester, for four semesters.

LeadMN has two scholarship deadlines: November 1 and April 1. Scholarship applications are due at 11:59 PM on the day they are due.

"The 100% American" Scholarship is for students attending a Minnesota State college or university. This scholarship is sponsored through the generosity of the Mark M. Welter Foundation.

Five $500 scholarships will be awarded for both the fall and spring semesters.

Deadline

April 1 and November 1 semi-annually

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be an enrolled member of a Federally recognized tribe.
• Be accepted to or currently enrolled in an accredited community college, or four-year college or university within the State of Minnesota.
• Be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.
• Possess a minimum GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate applicants and 3.0 for graduate applicants.

Award amounts range from $500-$2,000 per term.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be enrolled or accepted into a program at a Minnesota State institution.
• Applicant must be a racial/ethnic group member.
• Undergraduate applicants must have a 2.0 GPA. Graduate students must have a 3.0 GPA.
• Full time status for undergraduates is 12 credits or more, and 6 credits or more for graduate students. Part-time status for undergraduate students is 6-11 credits.
• Part-time scholarship recipients will be awarded up to $1,200 and full-time scholarship recipients will be awarded up to $2,500.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Applicant must be a student of color
• Student must be a graduate of a Minnesota high school
• Be enrolled in an accredited Minnesota post-secondary educational institution
• Register and maintain full-time status throughout the academic year they are awarded the grant, in order to remain eligible
