Follow These Steps to Apply for Military Students

Use this simple step-by-step list to guide you in your application and financial aid process for Normandale.

We also recommend that you meet with the Veterans Advisor and School Certifying Official who can help answer your questions.

Step 1: Apply for Admission

You’ll have an opportunity to indicate information about your military service or veteran status on your application.

Step 2: Submit Official Transcripts

Contact any previous colleges or universities you attended outside of Minnesota to request official transcripts be sent by mail or email to Normandale. Our Records Office will request transcripts from other Minnesota State institutions on your behalf.
- Request transcripts be emailed.
- Request transcripts be mailed to:

Review information about Military Transcripts and request any transcripts as needed.
Request transcripts from exams such as AP, IB, CLEP or DSST.

Step 3: Apply for VA Education Benefits

Meet with the Veterans Advisor & School Certifying Official. If you are new to Normandale or are applying for benefits the first time, you are welcome to make an appointment.
It’s important to start on the application process as soon as possible to help ensure that your benefits are ready by the start of the semester

Step 4: Apply for Financial Aid

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Completing the FAFSA is recommended, even if your VA benefits or other military funding covers your school expenses.
