All new students complete an assessment for course placement before registering for classes. Course placement helps you choose the reading, writing and math courses that are right for you.
Course placement can be determined using one or a combination of the following information:
Send all documents as PDFs to the Office of Admissions. We’ll contact you if we need anything else to determine your placement.
Questions? Our course placement resources explain the process in detail.
All students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This establishes your eligibility for federal and state grants, loans and work study.
You’ll need to make other payment arrangements for tuition, fees and books if the college doesn’t receive your FAFSA results by the payment deadline date. You can choose cash, credit or the Nelnet Payment Plan for alternative arrangements. Your expenses may be reimbursed with receipt of financial aid later in the term.
You must pay tuition and fees by the due date to attend classes. Tuition payments and due dates are based on your registration date.
Sometimes, FAFSA results are not received by the due date. Students are responsible for making payment arrangements if that is the case.
You can make the following payment arrangements if your FAFSA results aren’t in by the payment due date:
All students must have a Normandale Community College ID card. It’s your official form of identification that gives you access to campus buildings, like the library where you can print materials or rent books.

Online learning has become a very popular choice for taking college courses. Many of Normandale's programs are only offered online.
Adjusting to online learning is easy when you plan. Knowing how the course is taught is the first step. You may have classes in-person, completely online or a combination of both.
It's easier to prepare for your classes if you know how the three kinds of online learning experiences will work. One format may be far better for you and your life than another.
The best way to prepare? Ensure you have the right internet, tech and transportation before classes start. Know how faculty can help you be successful and when to contact them for help.
Gain experience and develop skills through volunteer and internship positions.
Life challenges become barriers to learning. Our counselors provide individual appointments, crisis intervention, referrals and mental health information.
