Normandale Community College uses one or more of the following placement measures to determine a student's course placement within reading, writing, and mathematics. Once the documentation has been evaluated, updated placements will be available in eServices.
Open ALEKS is a free, online math program to help you prepare for your next math class and even potentially earn a higher math placement at Normandale. Students receive 12 months of access, including free math coaching appointments with an Open ALEKS math coach. Learn more about Open ALEKS here.
Students interested in updated placement based on test scores must submit ACT, SAT, MN Comprehensive Assessment (MCA), or ACCUPLACER results taken at another institution to the Office of Admissions at the time they apply for admission or once the scores are available.
All documents of previous score reports can be submitted as email attachments to admissions@normandale.edu. Or by USPS mail to:
Normandale Community College
Office of Admissions
9700 France Ave. S.
Bloomington, MN 55431
Eligible ACT, SAT, and/or MN Comprehensive Assessment MCA scores must be taken within five calendar years, inclusive of the current calendar year. See the Understanding Placement Results for information on how placement is determined by these tests.
Transfer students who have taken college-level coursework at a regionally accredited college or university may have already satisfied some or all course placement requirements. Once the documentation has been evaluated, notification of updated placement will be sent via email. Students should order official transcripts from all colleges they have attended to be sent to:
Normandale Community College
Records and Registration
9700 France Ave. S.
Bloomington, MN 55431
or by email to: records@normandale.edu
Note: Electronic transcript retrieval is now possible among all Minnesota State institutions to facilitate the transfer of students between Minnesota State College and Universities. As a result it is no longer necessary for most students to order transcripts to be sent to another Minnesota State institution. Normandale will review the transcripts and update placements in the associated academic skill area as listed below:
Students who have earned college credits from items such as Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), or International Baccalaureate (IB) must submit official transcripts to the Records and Registration office. Placements are updated in the associated academic skill area if the following scores are met:
• 3 or higher on the AP exam
• 4 or higher on the IB course
• 50 or higher on the CLEP test
